Soak the pitted dates in hot water for 30 minutes.

Blend the drained dates with the 25 ml of evaporated milk and the 5 drops of vanilla flavoring in intervals until a uniform mixture is obtained. You can increase or reduce the amount of milk to obtain a more liquid or pasty mixture according to preference.

OPTIONAL: Add the mixture to a cauldron and cook over low heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring constantly. It will give it a thicker consistency and similar to the authentic dulce de leche.
