Fill a bowl with water and refrigerate or put in the freezer or leave on ice (while making the egg so that it cools sufficiently).

Heat the saucepan with the water and a few drops of vinegar, at 7 or so to make it easier to see when it is about to boil. Break the egg into a bowl.

When it is about to boil, carefully add the egg, cover and turn off the heat and remove. Let it cook for 4 minutes.

After those 4 minutes, immediately transfer the egg to the bowl of cold water to stop cooking. Serve immediately.
